Each member of the delivery team is assigned a zone that might include 3-6 stops, and after picking up the prepared meal from the church house–approximately 3:00pm on Wednesdays–the deliverer will then drive to each location and leave the designated number of meals. Additional means of loving concern and conversation with each contact is an added bonus to all parties but not required each occasion. **Many of the Midweek Meal deliverers are also in the Sunshine Circle care group because many recipients of our Wednesday meal deliveries are also regular contacts for Sunshine Circle. We understand that circumstances come up that might affect your availability to deliver, but a Wednesday Supper deliverer is expected to be available 3 out of 4 Wednesdays of the month and a commitment to at least a semester is most appreciated. You, your household, or your Life Group can “foster” a missionary or a church planter through prudent contact and support. Like a foster child might move under the care of another, missionaries and church planters might benefit from support of another person/household/group in the future, but for the time being, he/she is “yours” to support. A person/group who “fosters” a missionary or church planter is expected to be in communication with the contact and the church staff at least quarterly. A commitment to the role for at least a year is requested.

| Volunteer: Adoption and Foster Care champion for FBCOne of the local mission initiatives is to actively support households involved with adoption and foster care, and the adoption and foster support champion for FBC communicates with the placement parents (and biological parents as needed with permission), Department of Child & Family Services employees upon request, as well as support agencies and placement agencies in order to inform the church staff (and congregation) about how we might best support the parents AND kids in care. The adoption and foster support champion could attend agency meetings, regularly search for current needs through adoption/foster family social media posts and proactive check-ins, coordinate volunteer teams as needed, and help make deliveries. Two general principles for this initiative is that we place high priority on 1) family reunification and 2) holistic Gospel presentation. We want to see God’s restoration manifest in the hearts of individuals, the homes of families, and on the earth as it is in heaven.

An adoption and foster support champion for FBC defers to church staff on decisions about expenditures, represents the church in public behavior, and demonstrates a growing awareness for various adoption and foster agencies.

| Volunteer: Bereavement committee memberA member of the bereavement committee is at the ready to prepare and/or serve food and offer heartfelt compassion to a person/family in grief. When the church staff is made aware of a church member’s recent loss and might benefit from care through food provisions, the bereavement committee chairperson is notified and she then rallies the committee to the task. Sometimes a home-cooked dish is requested. Sometimes a delivery is most appreciated. Sometimes a meal is hosted and served at the church house by committee members.

Just as life can be unpredictable, this role follows the flows of life, so bereavement tasks are as needed. For the benefit of the chairperson’s expectations, an annual commitment from committee members is most appreciated.

| Volunteer: Weekday Missions (benevolence) helperWeekday missions are the day-to-day situations presented to our church that call for stewardship of resources to holistically care for persons. Almost every day the church office is open, someone makes contact–whether in-person or over the phone–with a request for assistance, and our staff is charged with leaning into the Spirit for discernment on when and how to respond. For financial accountability as well as for the intention of genuine empowerment, we document who we encounter and what assistance was provided (if any) for these benevolence situations. Assistance always includes relational support through prayer and compassion, but sometimes it might also include things like financial help on utility bills, gift cards for gasoline/food purchases, and/or additional referrals to community resources.

A weekday missions helper would assist in making phone calls to clients in need or to appropriate resource partners. The helper could join a minister in meeting with a client, exercise active listening to treat persons with dignity, and offer prayer as a means of support. Helping with weekday missions develops a compassionate heart that wants to assist everyone while also recognizing the power of a referral, the potential need to say “No,” and the thick skin needed to not meet every person’s expectations. Confidentiality is necessary.

| Volunteer: Prayer and encouragement warrior

A prayer and encouragement warrior offers intentional devotion in the name of Jesus for specified persons and programs. Every week, the “First Family News” lists names of members and non-members who have communicated to our church staff a request for prayer, and a prayer and encouragement warrior could pore over the list, reach out and communicate if/when appropriate, and correspond with church staff about updates. Every week, ministry happens in and around our church facility, and a prayer and encouragement warrior could walk the grounds and pray for the manifestation of the Spirit’s work. Ministry partners and missionaries, moms and dads, members and guests, momentous events and the regular monotony, known maladies and yet-to-be-known neighbors… every person and occasion needs prayer. A prayer and encouragement warrior knows the God who is up to the task and persistently approaches His throne with humble petitions. **Please note that we want and need overlap between the designated tasks of this position and EVERY area of ministry conducted. Prayer is not isolated to a few but to all, while a few will also commit to interceding for all.

A prayer and encouragement warrior stands at the ready for specific needs and notices that might arise, but also, he/she may commit to a recurring practice like walking the grounds once-a-month, working through the First Family News each week, or coming early on Sunday mornings to pray for our corporate gathering. Respectful confidentiality is required, gossip is not condoned.

| Volunteer: Member care, new contact outreach, and mobilization helper
Long title, (eternally) longer influence. A helper in this area of ministry offers time and skills in corresponding with both guests and members alike, then documenting such correspondence so that our church staff can offer additional follow-up. Ministers in various areas and administrative assistants will continue making points of contact with guests and members, and how meaningful it will be for those in our local community to be contacted by a “general” member of our faith community! Helpers will be trained in some general guidance for potential conversations: Do you have a church you call “home” and a relationship with Jesus? Do you have any contact info that needs to be updated? Are you connected with a Life Group yet? Can I interest you in taking a step in membership and discipleship? **Those in the Sunshine Circle care group might have an affinity for this area of service, too; the distinction between the two is that this member care and new contact outreach helper is not limited to our “shut-in” list. A helper in the area of member care and new contact outreach is expected to offer assistance up to a few times a month and to prudently communicate with assigned contacts as well as church staff. Upon request, helpers could be granted access to a church office phone and to church database software, though contact might also include in-person visitations with another helper (spouse/friend/etc). Coordination will occur between First Impressions team and appropriate ministry areas to follow-up with guests and mobilize interested volunteers.
